Soda companies, movie theaters and citizens alike are coming together to form an opposition to new legislation proposed by New York City's mayor Michael R. Bloomberg that would restrict the size of soft drinks that can be sold in the city. This past Fourth of July, nearly everyone who went to the beach in New York City saw planes flying through the sky carrying banners that read "NO DRINK 4 U" to remind the public of the possible upcoming change.

Regal Cinemas and AMC Entertainment are also joining the effort against the ban, with employees wearing shirts that read "I picked out my beverage all by myself". The smallest beverage offered at these theaters is 32 ounces, so their business would be threatened if the ban were enacted.

According to the New Yorkers for Beverage Choice coalition's website: "Mayor Bloomberg is proposing to ban sales of sugar-sweetened beverages over 16 ounces in New York City. Fountain and bottled beverages over 16 ounces could no longer be sold in restaurants, movie theaters, sports venues, coffee shops, food trucks and street carts."
